Beauty. A word that many do not understand and will never understand . Society has brought us a word and there is really no definite answer we look at society and we describe things as beautiful but do we really know what beauty means and represents. We google beauty and many women faces will pop up because there is an ideal picture of a women who describes beauty. In society that we live in we say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but in reality is that true or is it a sugar coat to a bigger question. We socially constructed what an ideal person would be we look at barbies and were taught that’s women look but in reality there is not living women that looks like barbie. Now shouldn’t that tell us something we grew up around a toy that was beautiful and ideal but in reality there was no such thing. In society as a women we are taught to keep up with hygiene and our feminine appearance we should have no hair grown out on our body other than our head we are told we need straight white teeth and we need to not have an excess amount of body fat . We need to represents models but in reality is that even healthy? We live in a culture that has told us how to be beautiful but beautiful changes every single year . No matter how much cosmetology surges someone is to get they are not perfect and that should tell us we shouldn’t chase perfection when there is no such thing. We look at Americas ideal beauty and then we look at Europe’s ideal beauty and they will be totally different and that is because social location . In America we are told to be thick in Europe we are told to be more a natural beauty and that should show us that beauty is different universally. With beauty comes skin tone and that is a topic many people do not like to speak about because race scares so many people on having a civil conversation about. Beauty and skin tone can clash because you might hear ” your pretty for a white girl” how is that supposed to be translated? Societies ideal is something that we never really see. We might say someone is the prettiest ever but to someone else they could see totally different. In the beginning I said what is beauty after reading this chapter I still have the same question because there is not real answer. Society chases beauty and we all see beauty different and if everyone realized that they wouldn’t try to socially construct themselves into becoming the perfect for everybody. Marketing and beauty have created many topics of discussion because no one really turns to acne skin or over weight people as being ideal or beautiful but rather told ” they’re beautiful on the inside” . Us as a society are confused on what beauty is so society told us that beautiful is skinny but not too skinny.
