03/10/20: Leidner, Over the Counter at McDoanld’s

When we look at fast food industries we see how everything is so uniformed and in a certain form in order to remain everything be efficient. When it comes to businesses the way that the function is not the same way that jobs functioned years ago. The purpose of having more people than machines kept everything in more of a uniformed profession but there was still individuality in every person that worked there. McDonalds for example has a wide variety of employees that are such a young age because that is usually where the new beginning workers start to work at and the get used to having to be controlled by the consumers demands and that is what shapes them. McDonalds even offers a Hamburger University and that is specialized off the job that people are employed to this is the same as when you work at. job and you might get a stock to invest in. Lets say for example Starbucks they encourage you workers considering they put forth college scholarships and in the scheme of things people that get employed there actually seem to think this is a huge benefit but when we look back in the past we see that benefits have gotten so low and that people used to not even work for these big companies and were able to still pay bills now people of middle and lower class keep struggling to make ends meet. Although there is not so much of a robot type of system considering the workers still get to interact but when we look at the future we can see that jobs like this are going to start dwindling down and less individuality among jobs. These jobs though people don’t look forward to because like we discussed in class this is just a job and we don’t get excited for it because e are so alienated from the job itself that is disconnects our self from the job itself and doesn’t exactly let our emotions get involved like the man building the chair example.
